Dissolving dermal fillers is a procedure that is done using Hyaluronidase (Hyalase®) when an individual has lumps (most commonly in lips), unevenness, migration, or simply doesn’t like the appearance due to the excessive use of dermal filler.
Hyalase® is an enzyme that breaks down hyaluronic acid: dermal filler and naturally occurring hyaluronic acid. This product can sometimes be used in emergencies if the patient has had a reaction to dermal fillers or an occlusion.
Having Hyalase® injected in an area where dermal filler has built up will help break down the enzymes of the hyaluronic acid which will completely remove the unwanted filler.
During the initial consultation at Hadji Medical Group, your practitioner will listen to your treatment expectations and discuss what you wish to achieve. Following an assessment of your treatment needs, your practitioner will recommend which areas will be dissolved.
After a treatment plan has been agreed, and only once you are happy to proceed, you will be asked to read, understand and sign a consent form before the treatment can begin.
A small patch test will also be performed on the arm to make sure there’s no allergic reaction to the product.
Numbing cream will be applied 10 minutes before the treatment to help keep the pain low.
Hyalase® is then injected into the skin in small amounts using a very fine needle or cannula. The treatment is quick, typically taking about 10 minutes.
After a treatment some reactions are relatively common, these include; slight redness, swelling, itching, bruising and tenderness. The reactions are generally mild to moderate and usually disappear shortly after injection. They typically resolve spontaneously within one or two days, but for some treatments they may last longer. In the majority of cases, our patients are able to return to work or their usual daily activities immediately.
The filler will begin to dissolve almost immediately after injecting but will take up to 14 days for it to completely dissolve.
After dissolving filler, we advise patients to wait at least 14 days before booking to redo their lips or facial fillers.
We use a topical numbing cream to numb the area prior to dissolving which takes the edge off. It can sometimes feel like the product stings when it is injected. Our patients have never complaint of pain during this procedure.
